Everything You Need to Know About Purchasing a Book Nook

So you want your own book nook? I totally understand! That is exactly why I started making my own book nooks. Whether you want to build a kit, make a custom nook, or purchase one from an artist, I have all the tips for you!

One of the most common questions that I get is “can I purchase one of your pieces?” While I would love to sell a book nook to everyone who wants one, it just isn’t financially or logistically possible. I invest a lot of time into my pieces and I’m unwilling to part with them for anything less than their value. Unfortunately, that also means they are out of range for a lot of people. The good news is that it does not mean you cannot own your own book nook! Below are some sources for purchasing your own nook.

I would like to make my own book nook

That is awesome! If you would like to make your own nook, you have a few options:

  1. Make your own book nook from scratch
  2. Purchase a DIY book nook kit
  3. A mix of both

Make your own book nook from scratch

Making your own book nook can be intimidating but is incredibly rewarding. Check out this blog post to learn more about my most recommended resources for finding inspiration and guidance. You don’t have to get super fancy on your first book nook (or you can! That’s cool also). Make sure to check out my blog and social pages for more tips on creating your own nook!

Purchase a DIY book nook kit

If you aren’t ready to build a fully custom nook, my best suggestion is to start with a book nook kit. Book nook kits often (but not always!) have a little bit less of a custom feel to them. Kits will range in complexity with some taking less than an hour to some taking days. Book nook kits are often designed using a laser cutter. One recommendation I have for kits is from LKWood. You can use my affiliate link here.

If you own a laser cutter, you can also purchase files to print your own kit. I am a huge fan of the Glowforge Aura if you want to go down the path of owning your own laser cutter!

A mix of the both

One recommendation that I have for people who aren’t ready for a fully custom nook but want the custom feel, is to add your own touch to a kit. For example, in a completely laser cut kit, adding in some paint, wood stain, lights and decor can help amp up your pieces. If you have a more complex kit, you may want to change up some of the finishes (i.e. change the wallpaper or the fabric on a chair). Use your creative eye to make the piece your own!

I would like to purchase a completed book nook

Not everyone wants to physically create their own book nook, which is totally valid! Making a book nook is a time consuming project and not everyone has the time or skill to create the piece they desire. Fear not! There are also options for people who prefer to purchase a completed piece.

Purchase a pre-made piece

Many artists (myself included) will make their completed pieces available for purchase. In this case, you usually aren’t getting to customize the piece but that does not mean it won’t be incredible! Two sources for completed book nooks are Etsy and this Facebook group.

Commission a piece

If you are looking for something more collectible, custom and unique, commissioning a book nook by an artist may be for you. Keep in mind that this is usually a much more expensive route. In order to commission a piece, I recommend searching social media for artists that take commissions (like me!). You can also learn more about my commissions here.
